Services Provided

individual Psychotherapy with children and Adults

Empathic and evidence based treatment methods designed to correctly diagnose issues, understand their historical roots, establish one's own contributions as well as that of others and, in collaboration with the client, to design appropriate and effective change efforts.

couples therapy

Enhancement of partner understanding, communication skills, intimacy efforts, and development of specific methods to strengthen mutual satisfaction in the committed couple relationship.  In 2012, Dr. Lane was selected as one of Washingtonian Magazine's top mental health professionals in the DC Metro area in the category of Couples Therapy.

Family Therapy

Analysis of complex family interrelationship patterns in an effort to enlist the contributions of all family members who participate in sessions -- parents and children alike -- in developing strategies to address the needs of all parties.

forensic evaluations

Full child custody evaluations, parental fitness evaluations, brief focused assessments, and individual psychological evaluations to assist the parties and the Court in generating an optimal custodial and treatment plan in cases involving child custody and care issues.

pre and post divorce counseling

Assistance in planning for family changes involving separation and divorce, in the most child-sensitive implementation of such changes, in speaking to children about upcoming family changes, and in management of the stresses inherent in this process.

Parent Coordination

Assisting high conflict parents to implement their parenting plan, to monitor compliance with the details of the plan, to resolve conflicts regarding their children and the parenting plan in a timely manner, and to protect and sustain safe, healthy and meaningful parent-child relationships.

Parenting coordination is a quasi-legal, mental health, alternative dispute resolution

(ADR) process that combines assessment, education, case management, conflict

management and sometimes decision-making functions.

REUNIFICATION FAMILY THERAPY AND RESIST-REFUSAL ISSUES

In cases where there has been a period of absence or interference with parent-child contacts -- especially but not always in the context of high conflict families in which alienation or estrangement might be issues -- assistance with a stepwise plan designed to address responsibility, trust, comfort, empathy, and anxiety management and to create a safe forum in which to reinstate appropriate contacts.  In cases of child resistance/refusal, assistance with a broad-based understanding of underlying reasons and coordinated efforts with both the family and the Court in managing this difficulty.

PARENT COACHING

When a need has been determined for modified or improved parenting methods, individual work with a parent in order to create a better understanding of child developmental needs, an appropriate range of parenting interventions, and an ability to self-monitor the effectiveness of these changes.

ATTORNEY CONSULTATIONS

Advisory consultations with attorneys in the family law sector with regard to potential psychological issues, research findings in relevant  matters, child-centric custodial planning, parenting plan development, construction of clinically-optimal Court orders, utility of mediation or other alternative dispute resolution methods, client management. and, if necessary, engagement of the Court in support of clinical goals.

CONSULTATION WITH JUDGES, SCHOOL PERSONNEL AND SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES

Educative efforts to sensitize other entities to complex issues regarding trauma, psychological resilience, child development, and the interface between family stress and overall child and adult functioning.
